| ROHS Statement
Updated - February 2006 In July 2006 a new EU directive will come into force effectively banning the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment products. This legislation is being introduced in an effort to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment in landfill sites and is called the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and will cover the following substances. Cadmium (Cd) Mercury (Hg) Hexavalent chromium (CR(VI) Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs)* Polybrominated diphenyls ether (PBDE)* Lead (Pb) *generally found in flame retardant material The substance that is obviously going to have the biggest impact on our business is lead, as it is used both as a plating finish, i.e., tin-lead and in solder applications. As a distributor of electronic components we have not been involved in any in-house testing of components and have instead maintained close links with our principal manufacturers with regard to identification of affected materials. As new information becomes available it will be posted on this website. A list of manufacturers who have provided very useful information is listed at the bottom of the page and is updated regularly. We are gradually working our way through our stock profile as information becomes available. By July 2006 ALL part numbers will be identified by either an **RC** or **RN** in the description. A statement will be printed on the relevant paperwork explaining: **RC** - This component complies with EU directive 2002/95/EC **RN** - This component does not comply with EU directive 2002/95/EC Packaging will be similarly labelled. Spartan Europe is working in conjunction with other AFDEC (Association of Franchised Distributors of Electronic Components) members in an attempt to clarify some of the many issues that have arisen as a result of this new legislation. We are also maintaining close links with our principal manufacturers with regard to affected materials. As we obtain new information it will be posted on this website.
